![]() ![]() Breakfast was ok, again not a lot of choice. The buffet in Dreams - the food was mediocre with little choice. On our last day, she knocked on our door twice looking for a tip! The food was hit and miss. The room was dirty (well what do you expect when you pop up to your room and the maid is in there with the TV on.!). The wash basins were chipped, there was a large crack in the glass on the dressing table, water poured out of the sides of the rain shower. ![]() The room initially looked lovely, however, on closer inspection, it was very tired and was in desperate need of an update. The room was smelly and very musty, the smell remained throughout our stay. Our room was on the 7th floor, the views from the balcony were stunning. The foyer is lovely with plenty of seating. Husband and myself stayed in Secrets PV for 2 weeks in December 2022. They fried the fries/chips in separate oil and were reassuring and considerate when we would question each plate of fantastic food because we aren't accustomed to such tasty food- truly the best we have ever had! The pool/activity guys Freddy and Fidel made sure we had fun activities to participate in or watch all day! Additionally Brian Joya, Moncerrath of F & B, Chef Paulo at Capers, Alma at Tamarindo and the Chef at Bordeaux went so far beyond what we are accustomed to it's hard to express our gratitude. We had 2 rooms in the Preferred Club tower with Brain Joya as our Butler and he along with Moncerrath from Food & Beverage made our stay PERFECT! Our sons have Celiac disease and cannot eat gluten nor eat food that has been cooked in the same oil/area/pan as gluten and this is the first resort we have stayed that understood how to cook for celiacs and more importantly seemed to actually care that our food was safe and beyond tasty!! We rented a Cabana which made eating during the day even safer as our same server Edgar knew us by name and what our allergies were and made sure we started each day with a plate of GF chips and guac. We traveled for Christmas 2022 with our early 20s sons and older grandparents for a week at Dreams/Secrets. A big thank you to the excellent staff who made our stay here so positive! Overall, the Secrets side of this AMResorts complex truly lives up to its 5-star rating, and I would encourage anyone travelling without guests under the age of 18 to pick this over the neighbouring Dreams. The grounds are well manicured, with lush foliage and an elegant open air lobby. The resort is located within walking distance to popular destinations such as the Malecon, Mirador De La Cruz, the Marina, Zona Romántica, and much more, which was really convenient. The beach is rocky and full of vendors, but this does not factor into the review since it is public and not a part of the resort. Rooms were elegant and tastefully decorated, and were spacious with comfortable beds. Service was excellent, and staff were super friendly and always willing to help, something that was inconsistent on the Dreams side. Pools and Hot Tubs were cleaner than on the Dreams side and seemed to be better maintained as well for some reason. ![]() Wait times for the A-La-Carte restaurants were a bit long (seriously, Preferred Club members should at least have the ability to make reservations), but considering how good the food was it wasn’t a huge deal. I also really enjoyed the buffets for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. The Crepes were absolutely incredible (shoutout to Bernardo and Orlando for making the best crepes I have ever eaten)! Oceana had delicious food, the buffet was excellent, and Bordeaux was extremely impressive as well. I have written a separate review on the slightly disappointing neighbouring Dreams resort, but this resort gets almost everything right that the Dreams resort struggled with. This resort gets A LOT right! I stayed at this resort for 10 days arriving in late December 2022 and leaving early January 2023.
